2022 Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior Revealed

We’re fresh, well sort of, from a review of the new Navara PRO-4X, one you can check out on our YouTube channel right now, and we liked it, a lot. It took our minds back to the Navara N-TREK Warrior we tested last year and the tingle in the dingle it gave David and me. On-road performance second only to the Raptor and noisy like a tractor were the takeaways, and we have to admit to liking it, a lot.

And now it’s back! This time in Series 5 configuration with a new name, and we can confirm through experience, significantly improved NVH levels. Premcar has announced that final testing of the PRO-4X Warrior is underway and that it promises to be the ‘world’s toughest Navara’.

“We’re taking all the key improvements made by Nissan on the Navara PRO-4X, like its impressive NVH levels, steering quality, extensive safety equipment, and core dual-cab functionality, and we’re overlaying those updates with our own in-house engineering expertise to create the toughest and most capable Navara in the world,” says Premcar Engineering Director, Bernie Quinn.

Based on the PRO-4X, Premcar has set about improving both capability and comfort and it looks as though the previous Warrior’s re-tuned suspension, upgraded bump stops and 32-inch Cooper tyres on wider offset alloys will carry across to the new model, no doubt with some tweaking. All up, the tyres and suspension changes are expected to net a little over 40mm of increased ride height.

“We’ve taken everything we learned on the first Warrior, and the feedback we’ve received from customers and the media, to create a tough, capable, and refined vehicle that we think will be unrivalled in the dual-cab ute market in this country.

There’s also some bespoke underbody protection, a steel replacement bumper with integrated light bar – based on the Nissan genuine part you can buy for your Navara – and a towbar that has been rejigged to improve the departure angle.

As an aside, this is probably the first time – second maybe if you like the one on the HiLux Rugged-X – any manufacturer has made a decent looking front bar available. Genuine accessories have historically only ever appealed to the white socks and key chain brigade who live in fear of losing their warranty.

Being based on the Navara PRO-4X means the new Warrior gets the new 7.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist instrument cluster display, a high-contrast 8.0-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a leather-accented interior, that is notably absent of electricity and heat. The only way to get electric and heated front seats is via a leather trim options pack in the ST-X spec Navara.

The new PRO-4X Warrior won’t be the only Premcar tweaked vehicle in the Nissan range either, with Nissan’s managing director Stephen Lester confirming earlier this year, that there will be more than one Warrior model in Nissan’s line-up. Yes, the ultimate factory Y62 Patrol is coming.

In the meantime, the PRO-4X Warrior is expected to appear in showrooms in around August or September.
